Sé Nova in Coimbra
In the ‘Alta‘, the high and upper old town of Coimbra and nearby the University are the cathedrals Sé Velha and Sé Nova. First, a steep climb from the lower down townto reach the churches, but they are worth it. This time we have not visited Sé Velha but Sé Nova on the Largo do Feiria.
A beautiful cathedral in baroque style and built by the Jesuits around 1600. Gold plated wooden altars and choir stalls surmounted replicas of old Italian masters. In the church on both sides beautiful tile panels with Persian images. Left the sacristy you walk into a collection of relics that are used during processions.
